Google Takes Longer To Remove Old Domain When You Merge Sites
Posted On : February 11th, 2020 By : Dillip K Mohanty To : Technical SEORecently on Twitter, John Mueller of Google was asked to share his thoughts on why even after moving an old site to a new domain the old domain URLs are still showing in SERP. Also, the asked person has used the Removal Tool but still, the old URLs are present in SERP.
John on his reply said, when you are merging two sites together then you have to do nothing but to wait to get your old URLs removed from SERP. He said, it normally takes a lot longer when you merge sites rather than move domains.
It means, when we only move a domain to another domain then the process of old URLs removal from SERP is a bit faster.
John also advised to not use the Removal Tool when merging two sites together. He said, if you do so then you won’t get any traffic at all for the old domain.
No, never use the removal tools for site-moves. The removal tool doesn't affect canonicalization, it won't speed up site moves. You'll get less traffic that way.

No, you don't have to do anything to get it removed – it just takes a lot longer when you merge sites rather than move domains. If you use the removal tools, you won't get any traffic at all for the old domain, so I'd recommend not doing that.
