Google Removes A Web Page Listing From Search When Present In Featured Snippet
Posted On : January 24th, 2020 By : Diptimayee Mohanty To : Google UpdateOn Jan 23rd, Google’s Danny Sullivan on Twitter confirmed that if a web page listing is present in Featured Snippet then Google is not going to repeat the same listing in its main web search results. Google has made this update to help users discover relevant information more easily. Also, Google now counts Featured snippets as one of the ten web page listings.
If a web page listing is elevated into the featured snippet position, we no longer repeat the listing in the search results. This declutters the results & helps users locate relevant information more easily. Featured snippets count as one of the ten web page listings we show.

Danny also revealed some more information on this update while answering on Twitter. Let’s have a look.
- This update only focuses on deduplication of the first page search result.
- When a website’s image is displayed in Featured Snippet, then there’s nothing to deduplicate as images didn’t have a web search listing. This update only focuses on the content that is present in Featured Snippet.
- This update is not applied to Google’s other rich results like Image Carousels, People Also Ask For etc.
Nothing I've shared says you can't have duplication happen beyond the first page of results. Deduplication is only about what happens on the first page. As things evolve, the whole "it's showing up on page two" might not happen. So I wouldn't say that's how it works.
