No SEO Bonus for Having Images on Same Host/Domain
Posted On : March 7th, 2019 By : Dillip K Mohanty To : Technical SEOThere has been considerable dilemma among webmasters regarding the possible impact of images that are hosted on a CDN which is on a subdomain or separate website on maintaining links, traffic & SEO value.
Recently this query was raised on Twitter by Lily Ray. In reply, John Mueller clarified that hosting of images is not at all significant from the SEO point of view. As there is no SEO-bonus if you are having the images on the same host/domain.
It doesn’t matter how you host the images, there’s no SEO-bonus for having them on the same host/domain. However, since changing image URLs is “hard”, I’d use your own hostname for the CDN (avoid https://t.co/Y1ND46l9ij and use https://t.co/fWMc6CFPZ0), so you can change CDNs.

He goes on to add that since replacing image URLs is a difficult process, you can use your own hostname for the CDN. However, you must avoid, for example, yoursitename.cdncorp.com and use in its place cdn.yoursitename.com so that you would be able to change CDNs.
